Richard Blanco/Dan Vera Reading
We're pleased to host a poetry reading with former workshop leader and 2013 Inaugural poet Richard Blanco. He will be joined by poet, literary historian, and board chair of Split This Rock, Dan Vera. The reading will be followed by a reception and book signing.
Richard Blanco is author of three books of poetry, City of a Hundred Fires, which received the Agnes Starrett Poetry Prize from the University of Pittsburgh Press; Directions to The Beach of the Dead, winner of the Beyond Margins Award from the PEN American Center; and Looking for The Gulf Motel, published by the University of Pittsburgh Press in 2012. His poems have appeared widely, in journals and anthologies such as The Nation, Ploughshares, Michigan Quarterly Review, TriQuarterly Review; The Best American Poetry, Great American Prose Poems, Breadloaf Anthology of New American Poets, and American Poetry: The Next Generation.
Dan Vera is the author of two collections of poetry, Speaking Wiri Wiri, inaugural winner of the Letras Latinas/Red Hen Poetry Prize (Red Hen 2013), and The Space Between Our Danger and Delight (Beothuk Books, 2008). His work has appeared in Beltway, Gargoyle, Poetry Quarterly, Notre Dame Review, Delaware Poetry Review, Little Patuxent Review, Divining Divas: 100 Gay Men on Their Muses, Full Moon on K Street: Poems About Washington, DC, Dog Blessings, and DC Poets Against the War. He has been a featured poet at readings around the country, and his work has been featured on the Library of Congress's broadcast Poet and the Poem, Pacifica Radio's nationally broadcast Peace Watch and Sirius Satellite Radio's Writers on Writing.
