Art of Gratitude II

Days: 8 Mondays
Time: 7:30 PM-9:30 PM
Dates: 2/18/2019–4/8/2019
Location: Bethesda
Level: Beginner
Genre(s): Poetry

Workshop Leader: Rose Strode
Gratitude is complicated. Poems that examine gratitude reveal our human relationships: they may thankfully celebrate sharing, or struggle with indebtedness. Instructor Rose Strode will guide discussions of poems that reveal gratitude’s complex, paradoxical nature. Participants will explore work by Ross Gay, Jane Kenyon, Pablo Neruda, Mary Oliver, Cornelius Eady, Craig Santos Perez, and Jane Hirshfield, to learn each author’s experience of gratitude, as well as the tools of craft used to convey the world of the poem. Writing prompts inspired by the readings will help participants to fully examine the way both gratitude and poetry reveal our human connection to the world.
