John Weiskopf

Weiskopf

John Weiskopf teaches screenwriting at American University in the graduate M.F.A. Film program. He received an M.F.A. in Film Production from UCLA where he was later on UCLA’s extension faculty. He appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show for a film that he produced and directed. He has written twelve motion picture screenplays and two scripts in development. Three of these scripts were optioned by studios. He is currently producing a low budget feature film called Fear and Loathing In Wonderland by screenwriter Roger Alan Stone, and writing his own low budget feature that he will direct. He has taught courses in screenwriting and film analysis at The Writer's Center for two years. More about him at: johnweiskopf.com.

Teaching style: John uses feature films clips, and selected screenplay samples to have interactive discussions. He believes is important to workshop during the course, so participants will have an opportunity to get feedback on their own writing. John expects students to participate and share their work. He creates a nurturing, non-threatening, creative environment in his courses.
