Have you written a couple of poems that seem to be in conversation with each other, but you’re not sure where to go next? Do you have an idea which you’ve tried to write about, but you don’t feel like the poem is complete in itself? Is there a topic you’d like to further explore in a poem you’ve written, but you’re finding it difficult to know where to start? In this class, you’ll develop a sequence of 7/8 poems, and come away with strategies for creating thematically linked work. Every week, we will examine a single method of expansion through a brief video lecture and a few anchor text poems using the method we’re exploring. Choosing from material gathered in the weekly experiment and the launchpad prompt, you’ll generate a new poem in your sequence, and gain skills to explore, theorize and apply these expansion tools beyond our online classroom. *Please be ready in the first class to think about and post about the topic you’d like to explore with your sequence.
NO SET MEETING TIME: This workshop will take place over Moodle, which is an asynchronous forum based platform. The instructor will post a lesson and assignment every Monday, and participants have all week to log in and read the lessons/post assignments/comment on other classmates’ work. Shortly before the start date participants will recieve an email with login info. Please check your spam if you don’t see it.
