Struggling to start—or finish—that story, article, poem, or essay? Committed to make real headway in the next six weeks? This class is for you. With short readings and weekly writing assignments, you’ll explore what keeps you from writing. As a group, we’ll discuss obstacles to success, and experiment with a variety of strategies to break our bad habits and build healthier writing routines. Join us to stretch beyond your comfort zone and make real progress on one specific piece. Bring your calendar to the first session. Note: No meeting on April 18.

About Melanie Figg

A 2017-2019 NEA Poetry Fellow, Melanie Figg has over 25 years experience teaching and mentoring writers of all levels. As a certified professional coach, Melanie has helped hundreds of writers to publish their work, tame their inner critics, and add more creativity, balance, and intentionality to their lives.

Teaching Style: Melanie is an experienced, enthusiastic, and generous teacher. Her classes are well-organized and rigorous, but flexible—and include an effective combination of discussion, lecture, and in-class exercises/workshops. She also offers detailed, helpful feedback on all student work. Melanie is determined that students leave her classes with new skills, a deeper understanding of craft, clear ideas of how to proceed with their own work, and a lasting excitement for writing and reading.
