Do you have the foundation you need to launch a successful editorial business? In this four-week workshop, participants will travel through the seven steps it takes to position themselves to launch their business. Topics include getting the right training, growing your network, choosing your business model, managing business finances, and maintaining your business once launched. Plenty of in-class and at-home exercises will spur the momentum and excitement of building a business from scratch. By the end of this workshop, attendees will be well on their way to realizing their dream of working for themselves with an editorial business that endures.

About Katherine Pickett

Katherine Pickett is the owner of POP Editorial Services LLC (www.popediting.net), where she provides copy editing, proofreading, and developmental editing to authors and publishers across the country. She is also the author of the award-winning book Perfect Bound: How to Navigate the Book Publishing Process Like a Pro, the booklet Freelancing as a Business: 7 Steps to Take Before Launch Day, and several ebooks. Her personal essay “Dented” was published by Lowestoft Chronicle and selected for the 2011 Lowestoft Chronicle print anthology. Her articles have appeared on Publishing Perspectives, JaneFriedman.com, Writer Beware, IBPA Independent, and elsewhere in print and around the web. She lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, with her husband, Chris, and their two awe-inspiring daughters.

Teaching Style: Katherine believes in the collaborative approach to teaching. She will present information from all angles and support students as they make their own decisions.
