Due to the advance of the COVID-19 virus in the DC area, and based on CDC and expert recommendations, The Writer’s Center will be moving to online video conferencing for all workshops beginning Saturday, March 14. This includes workshops held at our main facility in Bethesda and at all satellite locations. We will continue with online-only instruction through at least the end of March. We will send notification of next steps by March 27.

Additionally, all events, meetings, and rentals will be cancelled during this period. The building will not be open to the public, including our downstairs writing space. Please contact us concerning credits.

If you are enrolled in a workshop that’s already meeting, please look for a follow-up email on Friday, March 13 about how future sessions will meet online. If you are enrolled in a workshop scheduled to begin over the next two weeks, we will contact you by Saturday to let you know whether it will be rescheduled or whether it will meet via our video conferencing platform.

Online workshops will be facilitated through Zoom (support.zoom.us), an online video conferencing and meeting platform. Zoom is robust and user-friendly, and should allow us to continue our usual high level of instruction.

For the duration of the closure, we’re offering an amended refund policy: students enrolled in workshops affected by these changes may receive a full refund up to five days before the first session. As usual, students may receive a credit for a future workshop up to the day before the first session. No refunds/credits will be offered on or after the date of the first workshops session.

We recognize the inconvenience of this situation, and we’re happy to offer a 10% discount on workshops that have been transitioned to online video conferencing. If you’re already enrolled in a workshop, the discount can be applied to one future workshop through the end of 2020. Discounts do not apply to workshops that were originally scheduled to be online.

We know not everyone has internet access or the necessary equipment for online video conferencing. We know this solution is not perfect. But we must put the health and safety of The Writer’s Center family first. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at info@writer.org.

Finally, please know that we will address your questions as soon as possible. We ask for your patience and understanding. This is new to all of us at TWC, too.

Stay calm and write on!

Best,
The Writer’s Center
