Janice Gary and Marion Winik

Janice Gary reads from Short Leash: A Memoir of Dog Walking and Deliverance. She is joined by Marion Winik, author of Highs in the Low Fifties: How I Stumbled Through the Joys of Single Living. The reading will be followed by a reception and book signing.

Janice Gary's work has appeared in Literal Latte, Kaleidoscope, The Baltimore Review, The Cincinnati Enquirer, The Potomac Review and Women Speak Out, an anthology from The Crossing Press. She recently received two Silver Nautilus Awards, one for the Memoir/Personal Journey category and one for Animals/Nature. She also is the recipient of the Christine White Award for Memoir/‚ÄčPersonal Essay and the Ames Award for Essay and is a fellow of the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She leads writing workshops throughout the U.S., including Writing the Memoir You've Been Dreaming About at the C.G. Jung Institute of New York City. 

Marion Winik’s most recent book is Highs in the Low Fifties: How I Stumbled Through the Joys of Single Living. Previous titles include Telling, First Comes Love, The Lunch-Box Chronicles, Rules for the Unruly, Above Us Only Sky and The Glen Rock Book of the Dead. Winik's "Bohemian Rhapsody" column appears bi-weekly at BaltimoreFishbowl.com, and her essays and articles have been published in The New York Times Magazine, The Sun, The Utne Reader, O, Salon, and Real Simple, among others. Her commentaries for All Things Considered are collected on the npr.org website, and she regularly reviews books for Newsday.
