Virginia Pye and Raoul Wientzen

Reading by novelists Raoul Wientzen, author of The Assembler of Parts, and Virginia Pye, author of River of Dust. The reading will be followed by a reception and book signing.  Free admission. 

Virginia Pye’s short stories have been published in numerous literary magazines, including The North American Review, Failbetter, The Baltimore Review and Tampa Review. Her debut novel, River of Dust, was an Indie Next Pick for May, 2013.  Virginia holds an MFA from Sarah Lawrence where she studied with Joan Silber and Allan Gurganus. At Wesleyan, Annie Dillard was her first mentor. She taught writing at New York University, The University of Pennsylvania, and was chair of James River Writers, a literary non-profit in Richmond, Virginia. She has been awarded fellowships to the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and the Acadia Summer Arts Program, and has attended the Tin House’s Writer’s Conference.

Raoul Wientzen is a pediatrician and teacher. He taught pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases at Georgetown University for more than 30 years, and he is currently the Medical Director of The Rostropovich Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization that promotes large-scale programs for children in the developing world. His debut novel, The Assembler of Parts, was recently put on two Kirkus Review lists: The Best Books of 2013 (100 selections) and the Best Debut Fiction of 2013 (13 selections.)
