Writer's Registry
Writer's Registry

PURPOSE: The Writer/editor registry is intended to provide you with the following opportunities:

  • Allow potential employers to contact you via e-mail
  • Allow potential publishers or presenters to contact you via e-mail.
  • Allow potential associates to contact you (for example, to set up a writer's group)via e-mail.

Only members of the Writer's Center or Maryland residents and workers may be listed in the registry.

If someone who contacts you is importunate, please let us know. Do not eliminate rude or insulting e-mail before writing down the return address.

On the other hand, remember that the virtues of easy communications also may result in some disappointing communications. On balance, our experience is that most people are responsible.

Instructions | Searching the Registry | Category List

Instructions

For your protection, searchers of the writers/editors database will see only your name, state, zip code, e-mail address and any information you choose to put in your brief resume. Once someone sends you an e-mail message, you can then choose to give out your address and phone number.

Before registering or changing your registration, please read the following instructions carefully . If you already know how to register, you can register from your Profile page.

  1. Only supporting members of the Center or a resident or worker in the State of Maryland may register. We will verify this information before your resume is posted.
  2. You must give all the information asked for though all the information will not be revealed to searchers (we tell you after the field whether the information is available to a registry searcher). We use the information to verify your status. We do not sell your name to mailing houses.
  3. Only register once and register only for yourself.
  4. Be sure to record your password. You will need it to change your information.
  5. Before registering, prepare a brief resume of no more than a page . You can also paste in a prepared resume. We have given a sample of what may be sufficient below. Remember,
    1. focus on recent work
    2. be specific
    3. be honest
    4. be precise

You and the potential contact will have an opportunity to explore further your qualifications and whether or not you are interested in the job, group, volunteer activity or whatever.

  • To change your information, simply edit your Profile page.
  • Do not telephone the Center for instructions.
  • Once you are finished registering the computer may take up to two minutes to accept the registration. We will verify your status within the week and you will be on the database.

We suggest that you look at the search the registry feature to see what information a potential user can see. Notice that a user can search for key words that may appear in your resume. We suggest that you have a line of key words. For some hints about key words, click here.

Searching the Registry

The registry is designed to help you to find:

  • a writer , teacher, or editor for a paying job,
  • a volunteer for your organization,
  • a reader for a reading series,
  • a colleague for a group you wish to establish.

The listing provides the first steps toward contacting someone whose skills you need or introduces you to someone who is interested in similar writing activities.

Searching Instructions

  1. Click on categories in which you are interested.
  2. Enter up to three key words that may narrow your search (e.g. physics, novelist, editor).
  3. Submit your request (or clear the fields and start again).
  4. Click on the name(s) in the listing and read the resume(s).
  5. Send an e-mail message to those writer/editors in whom you have an interest.

If writers do not respond, that is their answer. Do not call the Center for information unless the writer uses us as a recommendation.

While we would hope that the resumes of all writer/editors on this registry are accurate, please ask for and check recommendations. The Center cannot be responsible for hyperbole.
