Writing Resource Center
Adults writing for children should find
this site handy.
Folger
Shakespeare Library
A comprehensive site with resources, events,
and general information about this independent
research library. Poetry and PEN/Faulkner
readings might be of special interest.
Library
of Congress
Great site by the great library. View special
exhibits, search for any book, etc. Also
houses the U.S.
Copyright Office.
LitLine
Powells
Book Store
Based in Portland, Oregon, this site is
the small book stores' answer to Amazon.com
and Barnes&Nobles. You may want to see
for yourself the main store's 43,000 cram-packed
square-feet of books, but Powells offers
over a million new, used, rare, and out-of-print
books that can be purchased online. A well
organized site that makes it easy to find
what you're looking for. Also has a listing
of events if you happen to be in the area.
Shawguides
Writers' Conferences
Listing of conferences around the country.

Owl Books/Self-Publishing Resources
Mark Ortman, author of A Simple Guide to
Self-Publishing and A Simple Guide to Marketing
Your Book, provides some helpful information
on publishing and marketing. This site has
just enough to start you thinking about
self-publishing and make you want to check
out the books. Very useful links, copyright
information, and more.
Writer's
Digest & Writer's Market
You've probably seen the Market books (Writer's
Market, Poet's Market, etc.), now you can
visit the website. Not as comprehensive
as the books, they nevertheless list over
1,000 markets including a "hot list"
of their top ten rated picks and a new "Market
of the Day". A few contests are listed
including a fun competition called "Your
Assignment" in the spirit of The Writer's
Carousel "Center Challenge." Of
course you can order their publications
online too.
A
Writer's Place
Find books, software, magazines, and other
writing resources at the Writer's Place
web site. Nicely designed, but it may take
you a while to search through all the categories
until you find what you are looking for.
A good place to browse.
Zuzu's
Petals Literary Resource
Again, a must. Before entering, take a moment
to ponder the "possibility of experience
gained without the loss of innocence."
The site's name refers back to a scene from
It's a Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stewart's
daughter. Zuzu's Petals is chaotic, but
certainly worth browsing through. Four issues
of the quarterly print publication, 2000
links, and a list of book inspired movies
accompanied by QuickTime clips are featured
here. A semiannual
poetry contest keeps this site online
with a $2 reading fee per submission. As
far as contest rules go, Zuzu's says,"Our
only criteria is excellence and originality
of thought." (Reviewed by Justin
Furniss)
